OUR SAINT-AMOUR WINES IN FRENCH MAGAZINE

30 August 2024

The special edition of french magazine “Cuisine et Vin de France” 2024 has been published and we’re delighted to share it with you, our Saint-Amour wines in the spotline !

Situated in the Saône-et-Loire region, Saint-Amour is a commune with heterogeneous soils producing wines with many facets. With its evocative name and just 320 hectares of vines, Saint-Amour, facing the Mâconnais, celebrates Gamay Noir! The vines at Domaine de la Pirolette are all grouped around the winery. They are located at the top of a small hill, just above the granite bedrock. The vines of Domaine des Billards are rooted in a variety of soils: scree from ancient rocks, clay and granite. The estate has belonged to the descendants of Jean Loron since the 18th century. Old account books contain the names of the high society of the time (Marquis de Turgot, Louis XVI’s finance minister, and Comte de Choiseul).

DOMAINE DES BILLARDS – Saint-Amour 2022

Magnificent, dense garnet-red colour. Immediately suave, the wine then reveals a tannic mass that is present but perfectly contained and fine-grained. Powdery and present, this is a Gamay with personality.

DOMAINE DE LA PIROLETTE – Saint-Amour, Pirolette, 2022

Contrary to what the rather sweet nose might suggest, with its fine floral notes and beautiful red fruits, the wine imposes its presence on the palate with a prominent and imposing body. The juice is concentrated, ripe and delicious. The finish tightens up and provides a welcome breath of fresh air. Powerful, consistent and long.
