… and the Beaujolais tells no white lies

Long renowned for its outstanding red wines, Beaujolais is now revealing another side of its identity: exceptional Chardonnay-based white wines. This growing momentum has been highlighted by L’Express, which, in its July 2 edition, dedicated an article to the revival of Beaujolais Blanc and showcased the work that Domaines Loron has been carrying out for several years to promote this appellation.

This recognition extends far beyond our own estate. It highlights the commitment of an entire wine region working together to showcase the remarkable potential of Beaujolais’ limestone terroirs. From the Pierres Dorées to the gateway of the Mâconnais, these soils give Chardonnay a distinctive expression. As Thierry Bellicaud, Managing Director of Maison Jean Loron and member of the Beaujolais Blanc Commission, explains: “This is not a passing trend. White wines have been part of the Beaujolais appellation decree since 1937!”

Among the pioneers of this movement, Domaines Loron launched its first Beaujolais Blanc in 2020 with Princesse Lieven from Château Bellevue, before expanding the range with a second cuvée sourced from the Pierres Dorées. These wines embody our ambition to reveal another expression of Beaujolais—still relatively undiscovered, yet endowed with exceptional potential.

This vision lies at the very heart of Domaines Loron’s identity. From the Pierres Dorées of Beaujolais to the limestone hillsides of the Mâconnais, including the vineyards of Domaines Auvigue, we share one conviction: Chardonnay has the remarkable ability to express the full authenticity and richness of its terroirs. Through each of our cuvées, we remain committed to showcasing these outstanding white wines—once little known, but now more than ever looking towards a bright future.
