Celebrating 80 Years of Domaines Auvigue and 90 Years of the Pouilly-Fuissé Appellation

Housed in the former church of Fuissé, thoughtfully restored as both a winery and a place to gather, Domaines Auvigue embody a vibrant vision of Burgundy’s heritage.

This year, we are delighted to celebrate two landmark anniversaries: the 80th anniversary of Domaines Auvigue and the 90th anniversary of the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. Established in 1936, the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation has helped bring Burgundy’s great wines to international prominence. Nestled between the iconic rocks of Solutré and Vergisson, it has, over the decades, established itself as the benchmark for Burgundy’s great white wines, thanks to the uniqueness of its limestone soils, the diversity of its Climats, and the remarkable expression of Chardonnay.

Rooted in the heart of the appellation since 1946, Domaines Auvigue pioneered a parcel-by-parcel approach as early as the 1970s, helping to reveal the unique character of the Mâconnais Climats. This vision resonates even more strongly today with the recognition of the Pouilly-Fuissé Premier Crus in 2020.

The anniversary celebrations also featured an exceptional highlight: a vertical tasting of Pouilly-Fuissé wines, led in the heart of the winery by Fabrice Sommier, President of the Union de la Sommellerie Française. Guests enjoyed the rare opportunity to taste several outstanding mature vintages, including 1991, 1997, 2003 and 2007 Pouilly-Fuissé, showcasing the remarkable ageing potential and timeless elegance of the appellation’s finest terroirs.
